Haverfordwest really hit the accelerator pedal in terms of runs against Cresselly as their opening pair of Jonathan Twigg and Andrew Phillips went after the visiting team bowlers and hit them to all parts of the Racecourse ground before Phillips was eventually out after 43 overs to occasional Cresselly bowler Simon Cole.

It was Twigg's maiden ton in the top echelon of Pembrokeshire cricket, with eleven fours and a five (courtesy of a quick single and four over throws), to reach his hundred - and left club pundits wondering if it was a club record opening stand for Haverfordwest. They had accumulated their 229 runs when Phillips played a tired shot to Cole and was bowled for 87 (eight fours) and skipper Steve James called a halt to proceedings so his bowlers could have 47 overs in which to bowl Cresselly out.

The game ended in a tame draw as Cresselly saw out time on 177 for 6 (S. Cole 88 and H. Griffuths 41).

Club stalwart Jimmy Ambury, one time printer with local paper the West Wales Guardian confirmed that this was not only the highest stand for an opening partnership for the Club, but the highest partnership for any wicket. The previous record partnership had stood from the 1930's when the late Wally Staley and Bernard Jones of Slade Hall farm rattled up 180.
